Jimmy
Soldridge is an accomplished musician and master accordianist
having
made appearances at various festivals in Europe, Canada, Mexico, and
the
United States.
Since the age of seven, when he held his older brother's accordian and began picking out tunes, he has been intrigued by the instrument and its music. He served in the United States Marine Corp Band as a trombonist where his accordian had to take the "second fiddle" position. After leaving the Marines, Jimmy performed at clubs, taverns, and festivals across the country. His admiration of "America's Polka King", Frankie Yankovic, would be his inspiration and love for Austrian/Slovenian music. Soldridge's music went from recreational to professional when he formed his own band the Happy Yanks. Jimmy went on a Polka tour of Europe in 1985, playing in Germany, Austria, Italy, Lichtenstein, and also St. Moritz, Switzerland. In 1990, as Eastern Europe was becoming free from the Communist rule, he performed in 12 countries within a 19 day tour. Today, Jimmy appears at performances for his fans in Las Vegas, festivals across the country such as the Mardi Gras Polka/Cajun festival in Louisiana, the Ohio Polka Jamboree, Wildwood - New Jersey, and various other events -- all the while promoting polka music on WWVA 1170 AM Radio. At present, the dynamic talent and personality of Jimmy Soldridge makes him one of the most sought-after polka performers in the country. This CD/ cassette Jimmy Soldridge and the Happy Yanks was reproduced from his 20th Anniversay Album. This album contains lovely waltzes, vocal polkas, instrumental polkas, and Slovenian and Austrian Folk songs that you will love. |
