A DAY with Shady and Lucky.
~The Cat Sitter Video~
Once upon a time, there were two cats that lived in Grandma's house in October of 2002. Their names were Shady and Lucky. Shady was black and white and only 8 months old. She was a young cat and had no experience hunting outside because she was not allowed to go outside until recently.
Lucky, however, was a very experienced hunting cat. In the last two weeks alone, she has caught 2 birds, 12 mice, 2 chipmunks, 5 moles,1 squirrel, numerous bugs, and 3 green slimy frogs. Lucky is grey and white striped and is 4 years old.
One day a good cat lover named Kathy brought over a nice video tape for these two cats to watch. This video tape was called Cat Sitter. The tape showed pictures of mice running around squeeking and some birds that looked like parakeets that chirped very loud. This tape is very well-liked by many thousands of cats.
Now the day begins..........
Lucky and Shady was put in the back sewing room that has a daybed, a sewing machine and a computer monitor with a VCR attached to it. This video tape is about squeeking mice and chirping birds.
The story begins:
Lucky is listening to the squeeking mice.
He is thinking...."What is this noise that I hear"?...
"You cannot fool me!"....said Lucky!
"I know this is not real mice squeeking!
I catch many mice in one day, and I know what a real mouse sounds like and how he smells."
This is silly. I am going to lie down on top of the desk in this room. It is my favorite spot to go to. 
I need a rest.
"This is my nice soft spot to lie down.
Oh no.......just look at that Shady. 
I am going to just lie here and see what Shady thinks of the mice and birds!"
"What is this???? It sounds like some mice! I want to catch them!",...Shady thinks to herself.
 

Now Shady does not know about how to catch a real mouse because she never caught one before.

She is so excited. She hears squeeking!
 
 
I want this mouse right now! says Shady.
If it looks like a mouse, and it acts like a mouse..then it must be a mouse!
....But it does not smell like a mouse!!!
I am getting that mouse!. He is hiding behind this glass on this monitor!

These 3 cats think that Shady is acting so silly!
"I am sure I can catch one of those mice running around so fast. They like to hide under things"......thinks Shady.
"That dummy!. She cannot tell a fake mouse from a real one. She will learn when I bring her a real mouse.
Maybe tomorrow whens she goes
outside,I will try to catch Shady a real mouse"....said Lucky.
 
"WOW!.....but now I see a bird! It looks like a parakeet!...A green chirping parakeet. I want that bird!"....said Shady.
"Come here bird! I am going to get you now! You cannot hide from me. You are hiding behind this glass "!....said Shady.

....but poor Shady does not understand this is only a video and not real live animals.
"Now what can I do to get those birds and mice!".....Shady was thinking.

"There must be some way for me to go inside of that glass in that monitor to get them!"....said Shady.

.....if it sounds like a bird, and it looks like a bird, and it acts like a bird.....
IT MUST BE A BIRD!
Lucky was watching Shady the whole time..

Lucky was thinking, "Shady does not know what a real mouse and a real bird smells like. She will learn. She does not have the experience that I have. I am a good hunter.
She needs to go outside and get a real life!"

..Well ....Shady likes to sleep near the bed. She is so lazy.

"I am a beautiful cat said Shady.
can you see my beauty mark?
I am pretty like that bird."

"It is too dark now...but tomorrow I am going outside and catch a bird just like that parakeet"....said Shady.

"I will sit here and wait and wait and wait. Maybe I will see a mouse and I will catch it"....said Shady on one of her favorite spots.
....and that is one day at Grandma's House...
